Kissing Lovely: A Handwritten Font That Elevates Small Business Branding

A Fresh Start for My Client’s Candle Brand

I recently helped a small candle brand refresh their packaging and online presence. They wanted to feel more refined and approachable—like a cozy boutique rather than a generic home goods seller. One of the first design decisions we made was choosing a font that could carry that warmth and elegance. That’s when I discovered Kissing Lovely, a delicate, handwritten script font that instantly caught my eye—and my client’s.

It wasn’t just the pretty curves or the soft rhythm of the letters that won us over. It was how Kissing Lovely made the brand feel instantly more personal and polished. We used it across product labels, thank-you cards, and Instagram story templates. It gave the brand a consistent visual tone without looking forced or overly stylized.

What Makes Kissing Lovely Stand Out

Kissing Lovely is a script font that blends elegance with a touch of whimsy. Its flowing strokes and gentle bounce make it feel like handwriting with intention—like a carefully penned note rather than a rushed scribble. It’s the kind of font that adds a human touch to branding, which is exactly what many small businesses need to stand out in a crowded market.

Unlike some overly ornate script fonts, Kissing Lovely feels balanced and readable, especially at medium to large sizes. It works beautifully in both print and digital formats, making it versatile for small business owners who need to maintain a cohesive look across packaging, social media, and marketing materials.

Where Kissing Lovely Shines in Branding

We used Kissing Lovely primarily for headlines, product names, and short phrases. It’s not ideal for long paragraphs or body text, but that’s not what it’s designed for. It’s a display font meant to catch the eye and add personality to key brand elements.

Here’s where we found it particularly effective:

Typography That Builds Trust

Typography plays a bigger role in customer perception than most small business owners realize. The right font can make a brand feel more professional, trustworthy, and memorable—even if the product or service is simple.

Kissing Lovely helped us build that sense of quality and care. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about feeling intentional. When customers see a consistent, well-chosen font across packaging, labels, and digital content, they subconsciously associate that care with the product itself.

We also found that using a script font like this made the brand feel more approachable. It softened the overall design and made it feel less corporate, which was exactly what our candle client was aiming for.

Readability and Practical Design Tips

While Kissing Lovely is beautiful, it’s important to use it thoughtfully. Because it’s a handwritten script font, it can be harder to read at very small sizes or on low-resolution screens. We made sure to use it where it would have the most impact—on product names, logo variations, and accent text.

For printed materials like labels and packaging, we always tested the font at actual size to ensure legibility. For digital use, especially on mobile, we paired it with clean, simple backgrounds so the font didn’t get lost in the design.

We also made sure to check the included font styles, such as ligatures and alternates, to give the design a more natural, handcrafted feel. It’s always a good idea to verify file formats, multilingual support, and commercial licensing before using any font in business materials.

Pairing Kissing Lovely with Other Fonts

One of the keys to a strong brand identity is thoughtful font pairing. Kissing Lovely pairs beautifully with clean sans serif fonts like Montserrat or Lato, which provide contrast without competing for attention. We used a soft sans serif for body text and subtitles, letting Kissing Lovely shine as the star of the design.

For a more vintage or editorial feel, we also experimented with pairing it with a serif font for secondary text. The contrast between the elegant script and the structured serif created a sophisticated look that worked well for packaging and print marketing.

If you’re using Kissing Lovely in a digital context—like on a Shopify store or Instagram templates—consider keeping the supporting fonts minimal and modern. This helps maintain visual clarity while still allowing the script font to add personality.
